Emanuella started her journalism career as a digital reporter for Court TV. She covered capital punishment and high-profile trials, including Utah v. Warren Jeffs, Idaho v. Sarah Johnson, the Jessica Lunsford murder trial and the Anna Nicole Smith probate matter. She helped launch successful franchises such as Facing Death, a multimedia series about death row inmates in their final weeks, and the Stupid Crimes and Misdemeanors blog.
As a general assignment reporter for CNN Digital, she covered crime and justice and immigration for CNN.com and CNN Wire. She was part of the team that launched the network's first breaking news blog and beta-tested Chartbeat and Dataminr. As a features writer/producer, she pioneered CNN Digital's coverage of race, gender and identity and was part of the network's first trending news team. She led successful sponsorships, programmed section pages and helped launch the CNN Parents social media accounts.
She returned to Court TV as a field producer in 2019. She covered the civil unrest of 2020 and helped produce pool coverage for numerous high-profile trials, including those for the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Daunte Wright.
She graduated from the University of King's College in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a BJ. She obtained an MFA in narrative nonfiction from the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism.
